Text messages from Blackthorn Labs

This page explains every text message Blackthorn Labs sends, who receives one, how a person agrees to receive them, and how to stop.

Who sends these messages

Blackthorn Labs LLC, Michigan. Messages come from the business telephone number registered to Blackthorn Labs. No other party sends messages using this registration.

What we send, and to whom

Blackthorn Labs sends two kinds of text message, both from its own business telephone line and both to people who have just telephoned that line. The first is a summary of a telephone call, sent to the business owner whose line the call came in on. The second is a single reply to a caller who telephoned the line and hung up before leaving a message, telling them their call was received and how to reach a person. Blackthorn Labs sends no marketing messages, no promotional messages, and no messages to anyone who has not telephoned the line first.

How somebody agrees to receive them

The business owner who receives call summaries

Agrees in writing during setup, by giving Blackthorn Labs the mobile number to send summaries to and confirming that summaries may be sent by text. Summaries are sent by email unless a mobile number is given for this purpose. The wording shown at that point is: I agree to receive call summary text messages from Blackthorn Labs at this number. Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies with call volume. Reply STOP to cancel, HELP for help.

A caller who hung up before leaving a message

Receives one reply to the number they called from, because they telephoned the line and did not complete the call. It is a single message and there is no series. It is not sent if the number cannot receive texts, and it is not sent again if the person replies STOP.

How to stop

Reply STOP to any message. Sending stops immediately and no further message is sent to that number. Replying STOP to the call summary messages does not affect the service in any other way, and summaries continue to arrive by email.

Message and data rates may apply. Call summary frequency varies with how many calls the business receives. The reply to a caller who hung up is a single message.

What happens to the information in a message

A call summary contains the caller's name, the number they called from, and what the call was about. Blackthorn Labs does not sell or share that information, and it is not used for marketing. Blackthorn Labs never asks for a payment card number, a bank account number or a Social Security number by text, and never asks for one on a call.
